# Project Document Licence — version 1.0

Copyright © 2026 the project contributors.

These project-specific document terms follow the model of the
[W3C Document License (2023)](https://www.w3.org/copyright/document-license-2023/).
They use project attribution, expressly permit review submissions, and leave
implementation/example code under MIT. They are not an unmodified W3C licence
and imply no W3C affiliation or endorsement.

## Scope

These terms apply to the original analysis and reference material identified in
the repository's [licence scope](../LICENSE.md). They apply only to rights the
contributors control. They do not replace CC0, MIT, CC BY-SA or third-party
terms applicable to other components.

## Use and unchanged redistribution

You may read, use, copy and redistribute the covered documents, in whole or as
unchanged excerpts, in any medium, for commercial or noncommercial purposes,
without a fee. Retain the applicable copyright notice, this licence or a link
to it, the original source reference, and any supplied version and review status.
Excerpts must be identified as excerpts. Changes of format that preserve the
content and notices are permitted.

These terms do not grant permission to distribute altered reference entries,
translations or derivative specifications, except through the permissions below
or with separate permission from the relevant rights holders.

## Implementation and discussion

You may independently use, implement, describe, discuss and analyse the underlying
game mechanics and ideas. This licence claims no exclusive rights over them and
does not limit uses permitted by law, including applicable quotation, criticism,
review, fair-use or fair-dealing exceptions.

To support an implementation, you may adapt passages into its accompanying
documentation, identifying the source and changes and retaining the applicable
notices. This permission does not extend to publishing an altered reference entry
or specification. Clearly identified implementation/example code is MIT-licensed;
TLA+ specifications and examples retain their separate CC0 dedication.

## Proposed changes and publication

You may prepare and share edited drafts, patches and translations for submission
and discussion through [the project's review process](../CONTRIBUTING.md).
Identify them as proposed changes, retain their source/version references, and
do not present them as published or approved reference entries.

This additional permission covers review materials and their review history;
it does not permit publishing an unapproved replacement reference. Project
maintainers select and publish accepted revisions under the applicable component
terms. Contributor permissions are set out in the contribution process.

## No endorsement; no warranties

Redistribution does not imply approval or endorsement of the redistributor or
its products. No rights to project or third-party trademarks are granted.

THE MATERIAL IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR
IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR
NONINFRINGEMENT. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE CONTRIBUTORS ARE NOT LIABLE
FOR CLAIMS OR DAMAGES ARISING FROM ITS USE OR DISTRIBUTION.

The text of this licence itself may be copied and adapted under CC0 1.0
Universal; that permission does not change the terms for documents it covers.
